SEPTA 30th Street Station & 30th Street Improvements

SEPTA is part of a group of Project Principles including AMTRAK, Brandywine Realty Trust, Drexel University, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation which have developed a comprehensive plan for the renovation and transformation of SEPTA 30th Street Station into a 21st Century rail station.

SEPTA 30th Street Station is Philadelphia’s metropolitan area main rail station. It serves the AMTRAK Northeast & Keystone Corridors, New Jersey Transit Atlantic City Line, along with the SEPTA Market / Frankford Line, SEPTA Subway and Surface Trolley Lines.

Thomas P. Carney, Inc. was the successful low bidder for the General Construction portion of the 30th Street Station / 30th Street Improvements project. This is a multi-prime contract. Notice to Proceed was issued May 4th, 2020 with 912 calendar days for project completion.

This project is the first in a series of planned renovations and ADA accessibility improvements of the North Concourse, West Underground Concourse / Connector and I-76 Ramp Modifications that will bring the design into the 21st century

Thomas P. Carney, Inc.’s work includes sidewalk modifications, excavation, demolition, new elevators PE1 & PE2, 1 duplex escalator with rough-in for a future escalator, replace support equipment for the 2 existing elevators; individual Headhouse enclosures over the Northeast stair, escalator and elevator shaft at street level; a new canopy structure and “Green Roof” at the Northwest corner of 30th & Market Streets; and expansion of the station’s footprint northward at the mezzanine level. As is the case on all of our projects, Thomas P. Carney, Inc. will self-perform portions of this contract work.
