The Philadelphia Airport Runway 8-26 tunnel project consisted of building a tunnel that adjoined future runway 8-26. The purpose of the tunnel was to re-route a Conrail train line and Hog Island Road which ran through the future runway. Re-routing the train line and road were under separate contract.
The scope of work included installation of an auger cast pile system.
Thomas P. Carney, inc. self-performed the 20,000 cubic yards of concrete work along with the site excavation work, totaling 50% of the contract value. Large concrete pours of 1,800 cubic yards each were completed on Saturdays to avoid traffic problems.
The project was completed in 1998.
