Thomas P. Carney, Inc. was the Structural Concrete Contractor for the new 51-Story, 769,704 s.f. W/Element Hotel high rise, located at 15th & Chestnut Streets, just two blocks from City Hall, in Philadelphia, PA.
Thomas P. Carney, Inc. successfully completed the largest continuous concrete pour in Philadelphia’s history. The pour, which consisted of 620 tons of rebar; 5,850 cubic yards of concrete (585 concrete trucks); 3-crew shifts over a 26 hour period. This pour surpassed the previous record of 3800 cubic yards held by the new Comcast Tower.
This high profile hotel is currently the only structural concrete building (no structural steel frame) of its kind in Philadelphia. The dual branded hotel has 295 rooms dedicated to the 4-Star W Hotel with a 2900 s.f. Spa; a 3,505 s.f. Outdoor Pool and Deck; and a 2,974 s.f. Garden Area. The 3-Star Element Hotel consists of 460 Guest Rooms and a 6,392 s.f. Sky Lobby. The Hotel also boasts 1,731 s.f. of street-level Retail Space and a 179 Parking Spaces below-grade level.
