The Northeast Incinerator Building project was a phased transition from trash incinerator to a modern office building. Thomas P. Carney, Inc. was contracted by the City of Philadelphia for the Reconditioning Phase 3 work, which in essence is “build a building inside a building.”
Interior improvements include floor reconstruction, locker rooms, office and conference areas, warehouse storage area, elevator installation, new stairways. TPC’s scope of the interior improvements work included selective demolition; cast-in-place, pre-cast and concrete topping repair work; structural steel, joists and new metal decking work; new steel stairways and enclosures; new helical piers and grade beams and elevator shaft extension.
The renovated Northeast Incinerator Building reflects the values of a sustainable or “Green Building” as defined by the US Green Building Council’s Rating System for major renovation – core and shell (NCNSI) Buildings.
