Lower Bucks Sedimentation Basin

The Lower Bucks County Joint Municipal Authority contracted Thomas P. Carney, Inc. to complete upgrades to the Levittown Water Filtration Plant, located in Tullytown, Pennsylvania.  The scope of work consisted of the installation of a new innovative, high capacity inclined plate settler system with integrated side baffles to existing rectangular Sedimentation Basins #1 & 2.  The included plate settler system not only increased the volume capabilities of the Water Filtration Plant without increasing its footprint, it increased the amount of sediment removed from the water thereby increasing water quality.

Upgrades also included concrete repairs and coatings to the circular clarifiers, diversion box and two sedimentation basins; installation of buried 16-inch influent piping and 20-inch Effluent Piping at the Circular Clarifier; miscellaneous demolition, and installation of other associated valves, gates and specialty items.

The Owner maintained full occupancy of the facility throughout the construction phase.  Repair and new construction work was completed with limited plant shutdowns, never exceeding 6-hours per shutdown.  Special care was taken to dust control in order to protect new and existing facilities.

Electrical work was by a separate Prime Contractor.
